How to make Ranged_Weapons relevant?

Anyone have good ideas to make [Ranged_Weapons] and [Ranged_Weapons_Skills] relevant?

Currently [Ranged_Weapons] damage is so small that it is irrelevant to the outcome of the Duel ?

1. How about adding about 20% of the Ranged Weapons' damage into EACH round of melee fight?

hmm sure ill stand and watch while you reload :shock: , like ranged weapons of period were not often as dangerous to welder as the target lol but add in a misfire chance and you loss that round of melee or as you dont have 3 hands sacrifice the melee offhand attack in place of another shot and sure ill go for that :roll:

they are relevant now at low level and at high end i could even see a chance of more crit from it. but its a added chance to damage not a auto reload extra damage to attack. :lol: thats why often pirates carried several but still had to take time to change weapons....strictly my opinion on it tho.

If they want to make ranged weapons more effective, add their damage points to the overall rating. As it stands, to my knowledge, and I may be misinformed since I dumped my range weapon at about level 4, you can unequip it and your total damage remains unaffected

I will have to ask for clarification on this, but I believe that your Range Skill adds to your Captain's Skill when you are doing ship battles too. (Since the cannons are a range weapon) It makes sense in my head, not sure about in game.

But I do agree that in duel it should give a good effect. I have hit players with critical Damage in my Ranged attacks. But then Ranged attacks are only the first 1 or 2 rounds.

well too its name says it all RANGED attacks before you be closing to melee its just a wee bit extra damage and as effective as the actual weapons often where, but i never seen it have any effect on ship combat.... yet anyway.

as for if a opponent has none or not equiped you get 2 shots and if they do have ranged each gets only 1 seems be way i see it play out. then its draw weapons and have at em till ones left standing, so if we be adding ranged to extra damage in a melee every round then too can i be firing a broadside before i leave my ship :evil: no i dont think so.... but i would if i could :twisted: just to clear the docks of gawkers and onlookers. but then too i cant seem to be shelling those shacks on the hill some call a stronghold neither. :x

I was thinking the same way...I have 27 ranged weapons haha. And they DONT miss haha

Right now my Ranged is at 22. But I am dying to get it up to 32 so I can see the damage difference with a socketed weapon.

With the Melee you have to get to 42 for socketed, and I am losing my butt against those who have the socketed whip, even when all my other stats are higher.

A socketed pistol will usually do 17 damage instead of 12. The range is I think up to 23 or 25. Still very small potatatoes in fights where each party inflicts hundreds of hit points though useful if the parties are otherwise closely matched.

The ranged weapons effect on cannons is more interesting- I have 0 ranged SPs and find I miss on the first or second shot routinely. Can we get any more clarity on this?

I have noticed that captains skills affect the accuracy of cannons. A player with say 50 captains skills can sometimes beat a player with a more powerful upgraded ship that carries more cannons and crew and armor points and only 35 captains skills. Although the upgraded ship can do more damage and has more armor points, he will miss more often resulting in a win for the player with higher captain skills. There is no mention of this anywhere in any official rule statement, but it's just something I have noticed
